I can't live without it. I have three men in my house that eat unbelievably huge amounts of food, toddler boys that eat like men. My husband, well, eating machine.br /br /I have a bad back and cannot stand long nor bend much. A friend of mine suggested a slow cooker. It cooks slow and fast. I can take frozen chicken thighs and make a full, healthy meal in about 5 hours. I am amazed I did not discover this sooner and really can't live without it now. I can make very large quantities of food and basically go about my day doing whatever needs to be done and not worry.br /br /I have very little time so this is a welcome addition to my home. I just love it. I could probably have bought a "brand name very expensive" slow cooker. Instead I did a lot of research and found this one to be perfect for me. I am happy and the price is definitely right.

It does it All - Davie Hurst - Baton Rouge La
We researched many slow cookers and for the price this one was the best buy. Love the ceramic cooker that lifts out for cleaning. Easy to operate.

Hamilton Beach 33966 Slow Cooker - Billf -
Temperature probe seems to defeat the purpose of a slow cooker since it stops cooking when it reaches desired temp. Should be able to see temp and continue cooking.br /Lid is lower than other slow cooker limiting the size of items you can put in. br /A little pricey for what it does. Quality appears to be similar to those at half the price.

Okay i really dont have time to ever leave feedback on any of my purchases but i had to make time for this one, it is the best crock pot i have yet to purchase, some reviewers have complained about a chemical smell so what i did is i left this on low for about 8 hours without the glass bowl and yes there was a smell to it kinda like the smell you get when you purchase a new electric heater, after two days of leaving it on with the ceiling fan and opened kitchen door the smell is gone, i love this item because i can see my food and the storage is fantastic the left overs stay in the glass bowl and you close it with the plastic lid, the glass lid you use when cooking the handle does get hot so use an oven mit or towel this is not manul so you have to watch to see when your food is ready, and thats where the glass bowl comes in handy perfect....YAY!!!! for this item, i love it!br /br /br /NOTES: The clear base outside is plastic made from china, which i dont like, it will get hot to the touch but not like it will burn, it does have handles in the case you have to remove the whole unit, the glass bowl is glass and made in france, it has no handles when removing the glass bowl but i found this not to be a problem because the glass bowl itself has a lip around the bowl where you can use an oven mite and pick up....no problem : )

Burning Problem SOLVED! - Mike Shkolnik - Tigard, OR USA
Pros:br /It's clear - very cool!br /Glass bowl easier to clean than ceramic crock.br /No handles on bowl - others list this as a problem but I like it. I don't accidentally pull the bowl out when intending to pick up the whole crock.br /br /Cons:br /It burns food at the bottom, even with LOW setting.br /br /HOWEVER - I HAVE SOLVED THE BURNING PROBLEM! Do a search for "bakeliner" on Amazon - there are many sizes and styles. I suggest either purchasing the 6 inch circle and centering it perfectly or the 8 inch circle and cutting it to 7 inches. I purchased the full sheet at a local store and cut a 7 inch circle out of it and the burning problem disappeared, at least at the low setting. It still burns at the high setting, so don't use the high setting.

Crockpot SCVT650-PS 6-1/2-Quart Programmable Touch Screen Slow Cooker, Stainless Review

I am not what you call a typical impromptu buyer. After having bought my new house, I wanted to have some home cooked meals rather than the pre-prepared frozen or canned foods that I had been buying in the past, and I knew the easiest way for juicy, tender meals would be a slow cooker.br /br /I read many review and cooking websites trying to find what was recommended as a good brand or model, and then afterward coming to read all of the previous customers' reviews here on Amazon. It took me quite some time, and a large amount of nervousness to finally come to a decision. Many people complained about burning or boiling too quickly even on the low setting - this was the most concerning factor for me and my purchase.br /br /I eventually bought this model. There were few reviews, but none of them had mentioned burning, and the star ratings were so good, along with the automatic warming feature, I thought this was the perfect buy. I believe I was right.br /br /The first meal I made with this slow cooker was a Wild Mushroom Beef Stew. The beef I bought was already a prime choice meat, but the slow cooker really brought out the flavor and made it more tender than I could have hoped for. This recipe called for a 12 hour (max) cook time on the low setting. There was never any burning, and although it did come to a very low boil (tiny bubbles; to be expected in order to reach necessary heating of meat), this was not an issue and it did take its time to get there. I couldn't have asked for a better cooking product.br /br /Out of curiosity, I let the timer expire while cooking to see how it would go to the automatic warm (plus I was on the phone with my sister raving about this thing and the wonderful smells coming from it at the time). When it completes its cooking time, it automatically switches to the warming mode (showing as such from a back-lit display), and emitting about 15 high pitched electronic beeps to alert that the cooking has been completed.br /br /The unit was extremely easy to clean, and although there is that odd hole directly under the lid's handle, it's not really an issue (design defect or not). If food does get stuck under there, the lid's handle can be removed with a screwdriver quite easily, but since this doesn't boil over, unless it's over-filled, I don't foresee that being a problem from cooking alone. The stoneware is heavy, as it should be, but it removes very easily from the base. Since it overlaps the edges of the base, spills and drips (for me) haven't yet touched the outer base, so other than wiping the metallic base with a damp cloth, no further cleaning of that was necessary (just the stoneware and the lid).br /br /I've already recommended this product to friends and family alike.

Finally, a slowcooker that deserves five stars - Valerie A. Perley - Franklin, TN USA
Let's have a rundown of slowcookers I've owned over the last 10 years:br /The All Clad slowcooker was great; however, the computerized panel stopped working altogether AFTER the warranty ran out. The Kitchen Aid slow cooker was way too hot, even on the warm cycle. The Hamilton Beach Set n' Forget Programmable slow cooker cooked everything great; however, it would randomly shut off or stay on cook, making it unreliable.br /br /The new Crockpot SCVT650 is awesome. The touchpad is very 21st Century. It's so easy to program that I'm still astonished with it. It cooks great. Like most programmable slow cooker it goes from low or hot to warm once the meal is completed. You can set the time as low as 30 minutes and as high as 20 hours. The stainless steel exterior is something you can proudly put on your countertop. br /br /The hole in the lid is no big deal. It's purpose is to keep the handle in its proper place. To clean the hole, if it gets gunked up with food, you just use a phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screw. That's it. Just make sure that you don't tighten it too much or you might break the glass lid. It's an easy procedure, even for the mechanically challenged.

West Bend 84905 5-Quart Oblong-Shaped Slow Cooker

West Bend 84905 5-Quart Oblong-Shaped Slow Cooker Review

I cook nearly every day and use the slow cooker about once a week, mostly during the fall and winter. I had an old version of this slow cooker for about 15 years. I loved it and never had a problem with it. Finally, the old fella's base started to peel and the finish inside the pot was really getting worn. So I decided to "get with the times" and buy a fancier slow cooker. So I bought one of those big, stainless steel cookers with the ceramic bowl type insert. It had settings for warm, low and high, and a timer so I could set it for the time specified in the recipe, and then it would automatically turn to warm to keep the food warm until it was dinner time. br /br /I used my new fancy-shmancy cooker exactly 3 times - trying to get the setting right. All three times (once with a whole chicken, once with sausage and peppers and once with vegetable soup) I set it to low. And all three times I set it for less time than the recipe called for, just in case. And all three times I came home during the cooking cycle to find the cooker at a rolling boil! The food was terrible - over cooked and washed out. So - I returned my new-fangled cooker, and got another one of these. The best. br /br /The dial goes from 1 to 5, and I mostly cook on 2 for the whole day - up to 8 hours. It is perfect. You cannot go wrong with this cooker. I hope to have this one for another 15 years!

west bend slow cooker - C. Taylor - Indiana
Husband has one from years ago that cooks like a champ, this one the top doesn't fit tight making cook time a bit longer. Can't find them in a store anywhere.

Great product, but not a substitute for crockery style cooker - TheHollands - Oklahoma
I have had this West Bend cooker for 11 years. Though I don't use it all that often, it has been reliable. I have never had any problem with it whatsoever. It heats fairly quickly and the base can be used alone as a small electric skillet. It is easy to clean, lightweight and easy to store. It's oblong shape is also good for long pieces of meat.br /However, if you are looking for a slow cooker to set before work and leave cooking all day, I would not recommend this one. I have tried to use crockery cooker recipes in it, but it cooks too fast for that, even on the low setting. If you are looking for a product that will cook a meal in a few hours (as opposed to all day) then this product is more suited to you. Be aware, however, that because all the heat comes from the base instead of being distributed throughout the pot (as in crockery cookers), an unturned piece of meat will generally overcook on the bottom side if left for more than 6 hours.

H.BEACH 4QT. SLOW COOKER OVAL Review

This is a very attractive but very basic cooker. What I mean by that is it has nothing digital on it, no timer, no temperature gauge not even a power light "which would have been nice". It has a hand knob with off, warm, low and high on it, nice and simple. It has a heavy crock that fits inside and an attractive glass cover. It also has a very attractive silver and black exterior. It does not take up very much room on our counter top, just a little more than a loaf of bread. In fact that is what we store in it when it's not in use. The price from this vender seems high with the shipping charge. If you check around you will probably find a better price on this.br /br / This oval cooker will hold a larger piece of meat in it as apposed to a round one of a comparable size. It really does not have to be watched when cooking. The heat comes from around the sides instead of the bottem, so nothing to burn on the bottem. Meat comes out more tender by cooking it on low for a longer period of time, as apposed to cooking on high for a shorter time. I love pot roast, that is one of the main reasons I go it. It will hold up to about a 4 lb. roast, more than enough for my wife and I. Some dishes requre cooking on high for so many hours and than switch to low heat for the remainder of the time. I'm retired and it is no problem for me to do it manually. But if you work or are going to be out of the house all day, you might want to consider a digital cooker. Most of these can be set to automatically switch from high to low and warm at a preset time. So far it has worked out well for me with the manual settings, and I am very happy with it. br /br /I gave this 5 stars not because this is the best slow cooker out there " I don't know that " but because it is doing every thing I expected it to do when I bought it.br /PS::: Check Out my Photos Under Customer Images on the Product Page. Cooks too hot! - K. Flood -
I've owned this crock pot 2 years, and I've learned to adjust cooking times, etc, but it cooks way too hot on low. Hot isn't much different than low, warm works fine. Yesterday the handle broke. It's out of warranty, so I went to order the plastic replacement part. They are out of stock. I could order another lid, but it's , and another for shipping. For a crockpot that's two years old, I won't bother. I'm just going to replace it with another brand.

Little dipper is a true "crock" - Penny Duff - St. Petersburg, Florida
I have a "Little Dipper". Please be aware that you CANNOT cook with this--though that is only indicated in the instruction book. The cord for this cooker is too short for safety, making it virtually mandatory to use an extension cord. So much for safety. This is apparently designed for the narrow use of keeping dips warm. This might be acceptable, but the temperature is below the 140 degree level considered a minimum for safety by food service professionals. Also, you really have to heat the food separately and then put it in the pot--a real nuisance. The clincher is that it's a real pain to clean. Do not consider this Little Dipper a "bonus"! Instead, consider that it probably needs to be discarded.

KitchenAid KSC700SS 7-Quart Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel Review

I did a lot of research before buying this because of the price. Guess what! When I put things in to cook all day and set it on low, it does not boil. That is a wonderful and exciting thing all by itself. The one that it is replacing boiled everything at low so by the time I got home from work, the food was limp and tasteless. I lived with it until I finally broke the insert and had to replace it. The insert would have cost more to replace than I paid for the original unit. I was hesitant about this one at first because of reviews that I read about the insert breaking on it's own but so far this one is doing great. I think KitchenAide has fixed the problem or least I hope so. I certainly do recommend it and would buy it again if I broke this one as well. As least it looks like KitchenAide stands behind their product which is important, too.

Crockpot 38501-W Round 5-Quart Smart-Pot Slow Cooker, White Review

Not sure why everyone is bitching about this crock pot. I've owned mine for YEARS and absolutely LOVE it. The timer feature is great, it cooks the BEST whole chicken with about 2 cups of water and the bones just fall off. I could use a new crock for mine after using this no less than 100's of times since mine has a hairline crack, but it's still usable. I'm cooking a chicken in it while I'm writing this review. I've cooked pot roast, chili, beef stew, bbq pulled pork, pork roast and plenty more in this and am happy with the results each and every time. The price is right, I've sure gotten my moneys worth out of it. If your fussy want to spend more on a different model, go for it. If you want an inexpensive appliance that cooks FOR you, buy this one. I absolutely don't agree with any of the negative reviews that this crock pot has received. So what if it cooks HOT? It cooks a great meal. Mine is well used and well loved! It also cleans up very easy.

Crockpot 38501-W Round 5-Quart Smart-Pot Slow Cooker, White Feature

  • 5-quart slow cooker makes family-style meals for 4 to 5 people
  • Programmable temperature control; auto-shift to warm setting when cooking is complete
  • Dishwasher-safe stoneware crock with stick-resistant coating
  • SUREGRIP side handles for improved grip and comfort
  • Dishwasher-safe glass lid; 1-year warranty
The original slow cooker, the Crock-Pot was first introduced by Rival in the 1970s and has proved to be much more than a fad. This convenient appliance helps you prepare delicious family-style meals while you’re working, running errands, hiking, or just relaxing around the house. p The 5-quart, round Crock-Pot is large enough to cook four to six chicken breasts with vegetables or enough chili or soup for four to five people. The easy-to-use programmable timer turns on and off with the push of a button and lets you choose among time settings of 4, 6, 8, and 10 hours. When cooking time is complete, the Crock-Pot automatically shifts into warming mode, which keeps food at the right eating temperature but doesn’t overcook it. p The exterior of this Crock-Pot is white plastic that wipes down easily and matches the décor of most kitchens. Plastic handles provide a secure and comfortable grip for transporting the cooker. The Crock-Pot’s internal liner is made of durable stoneware that is attractive enough to go from cooker to tabletop to serve your meal. The liner also has a stick-resistant coating and is dishwasher-safe to make clean-up easy. The glass lid lets you peek at your food while it cooks and is also dishwasher safe. Rival offers a limited 1-year warranty on this stoneware slow cooker. I--Cristina Vaamonde/I Rival's Smart-Pot 5-quart white oval crock-pot

Yep, too hot! - B. Kerr - Phoenix, AZ United States
As so many others already pointed out, it boils everything even on the low setting. I used to be quite successful with my old crock pot, but I replaced it with this model and since then crock pot meals have just not been the same. The meat ALWAYS comes out dry, even though it's been cooking in plenty of broth for hours on end on a low setting. br /The lid never really stays on, moisture collects under it and it starts to wobble to the rhythm of the boiling that goes on inside, spitting hot water everywhere and of course all the heat escapes too. Which causes more boiling etcbr /Totally not the point when using a crock pot!br /br /I do like the size, quality and removability of the crock itself though, but it's pointless if it doesn't produce nice meals!br /So, a new one is on it's way! Let's hope we can go back to crock pot meals as they should be!

Lid too light, causes loss of moisture and rattling (with fix for it) - Kurzy Surfer - Michigan
The biggest issue I ran in to cooking with the CrockPot SmartPot is that the lid is too light for the pressure that builds up. I think that this is what causes two of the major issues listed in other reviews 1) the lid rattles, and 2) moisture escapes. As pressure builds up, water begins to accumulate under the edges of the lid. This causes the water to evaporate around the lid edges, thus it drys out too fast. Also, this causes the lid to float on the water which has accumulated under the edges and it start rattling (a LOT - very annoying). To solve this I put a round, heavy casserole dish upside down on the lid to weight it down which worked quite well. Once I did that, I got great meals. It does cook very hot. I am not sure I would feel confident putting it on low and going to work all day without putting a LOT of liquid in it. Given what I now know, I would not have bought this product.
