All-Clad 99009 Stainless-Steel 6-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker

All-Clad 99009 Stainless-Steel 6-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker Review

Although this is an absolutely beautiful "slow cooker", if you're going to buy the one with the ceramic insert, just buy a cheaper "crock pot". However, if you want a truly superior appliance, get this with the aluminum non-stick insert. The flat-bottomed aluminum pan allows you to brown your meats on the stove, gas or ceramic/electric cooktops. The bottom is perfectly flat and conducts heat brilliantly. Browning really changes the quality of a slow-cooked meal. I hate the canned-soupy-flavor of most crock pot meals done in the traditional crockpots. This All-Clad cooker will change your view of slow-cooking. The Teflon coating is standing up very well to regular use. Just take care of it. Do not over-heat it when empty, do not dunk it in water when hot, and NEVER put it in the dishwasher. We love this thing. I think it looks so cool that I won't let my wife put it away off the kitchen counter. ...beautiful!

Died with no customer service to resuscitate it - J. brooks - CA USA
We received this as a gift and used it three times over a year and a half. On the third use, it emitted a very bad smell, as though plastic was burning. It was coming from within the unit, so we called all-clad. First, they said that since we didn't have a receipt, they had to go by the date of manufacture, which was over 2 years ago. Second, they said there was nothing to do, as the warranty was expired and we could take or ship it to the ONLY Southern California repair site, which was over 2 hours away. br /br /We have spent a fortune on their excellent stainless cookware and were surprised at this lack of customer service. An email to the company resulted in the same response: tough.br /br /At this price point, the cooker should work more than three times and last more than 1.5 years and be accompanied by something resembling customer service. However, it is one more item that All-Clad has outsourced the manufacture of and apparently does not wish to stand behind.br /br /I'd suggest buying something else even though the exterior looks are very nice.

Great cooker, lousy insert quality replacement process - The Meanderthal's - We live where we are parked
This could be a fine unit if the ceramic crock did not crack after a few uses (as reported MANY times on this site). I have been trying to get a replacement crock since December 28, 2009 and have been told three times now that the crock will be available in 3-4 weeks. We are now into April 2010 and still no crock and no indication when, or if, it will ever arrive. This IS a "crock" in my opinion and I highly recommend that other slow cooker brands be considered over the All-Clad model due to their exceedingly poor record of product support. No matter how elegant the design of the cooker itself might be, it is useless without the crock to cook the meal in.
